Rules
By playing on MerlMC or using our Discord you agree to the rules below. These rules apply both in-game and on Discord. Punishments listed are guidelines; staff may adjust them based on severity and context. Staff decisions are final.
Chat & Conduct
Spamming
Do not spam chat with repeated messages, images or emojis, or encourage others to do so.
Flooding
Do not use excessive capital letters, emojis, stickers, images, unicode characters or mentions/pings.
Toxicity
Do not harass, insult or be toxic towards other players, or encourage toxic behaviour.
Mental Health
Do not joke about or bring up suicide, self-harm or other sensitive mental health topics.
Discrimination
Do not use racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic or otherwise derogatory language, or discriminate against other players.
Chat Filter Bypass
Do not attempt to bypass the chat filter. It is there for a reason!
Links
Do not post links to inappropriate content, IP grabbers, scams or malicious websites.
Advertising
Do not promote other servers, services, social media or anything not associated with Merl.
If you have a Creator rank and are streaming, you may advertise your stream in chat once every 5 minutes.
Impersonation
Do not impersonate staff members, other players or MerlMC itself, whether through your username, nickname, skin or messages.
Inappropriate Content
Usernames, nicknames, skins, builds, item names and signs must be appropriate. Offensive, sexual or hateful content will be removed and punished.
Safety
DDoS & Doxxing
Do not DDoS, DOX or attempt to hack the server or any player. This includes posting personal photos, IP addresses, real names or any other personal information, and threatening to do so.
Stolen Accounts
Do not use, sell or discuss stolen or cracked Minecraft or Discord accounts.
IRL Trades
You may not trade real-life money, or anything of real-world value, for in-game items, currency or services.
Gameplay
Server Performance
Do not intentionally cause lag or crash the server or other players’ clients. This includes lag machines, crash exploits, excessive entity or redstone farms, and abusing chunk loading.
Staff may remove or disable builds that seriously impact server performance without warning.
Exploits
Do not use, or attempt to use, any bug or exploit to gain an advantage.
If you find a game-breaking bug, report it to staff via a ticket in the Discord server. Responsible disclosure is rewarded with a bug bounty.
Griefing
Do not deliberately ruin the look of another player’s town by building in the wilderness around it. For example, building walls or eyesores around someone’s claims.
TP Trapping
Do not set up traps that kill or harm players directly after they
teleport to a town (/t spawn) or accept a teleport
request (/tpa & /tpahere). What counts
as a TP trap is at staff discretion.
Passive Bypass
Do not attempt to kill or damage a player in a PvP-disabled area or while PvP is disabled. For example, placing a lava bucket on a player in the wilderness, or trapping them with mobs.
Stream Sniping
Do not use a player’s livestream to gain an unfair advantage or to plan attacks against them. Streamers may report incidents to staff; with sufficient evidence, action may be taken against the offender and their accomplices.
AFK Bypass
You are allowed to AFK on MerlMC and will not be kicked, so an AFK pool is not needed. Passive Season Pass XP is deliberately not given to AFK players. Attempting to bypass AFK detection (including AFK pools) is not allowed.
Cheating & Automation
Hacked Clients
Using hacked or cheat clients, or any mod that gives an unfair advantage, is strictly forbidden. This includes clients such as Wurst, Meteor and Aristois. PvP clients such as Lunar and Badlion are allowed.
Faking hacks is treated exactly the same as using them. “I was faking hacks” is not a valid appeal.
X-Ray
Using any texture pack, mod, client or exploit to see through blocks is not allowed.
Auto Clicker
Use of an auto clicker or macro in PvP, or to automate any task, is not allowed.
Botting
Using bots or alternate clients to hold a connection, load chunks, or run farms/tasks while unattended (including a single bot) is prohibited.
Printer
Schematica and Litematica are allowed for viewing schematics, but printer mode or any similar auto-building mod/program is not.
Association
Knowingly teaming with or benefiting from cheaters may result in a ban.
Accounts & Punishments
Alt Accounts
You may only use one Minecraft account on MerlMC. If you have a genuine reason for more than one (e.g. siblings sharing a connection), open a ticket in the Discord server before joining on the second account.
Repeat offences may result in punishments on your main account.
Bypassing Punishments
Using another account to bypass a ban, mute or any other punishment is not allowed.
Repetition
Receiving a ban or mute of one day or more on 5 or more occasions may result in a more serious punishment. Depending on severity and context, staff may choose one of the following.
